About Us

Fitzroy Stretches was established in the 2000’s by Michael Falkland.

A builder by trade, Michael, frustrated by being unable to find reliable stretcher bars for his artist wife Nevin Hirik, decided to make them for her. So began a passion for producing the finest surfaces, from the best materials, for the creation and preservation of wonderful art.

Quick to establish a loyal following of customers, Michael moved from his small factory in Fitzroy to our current facility in Brunswick. Along the way a team of talented artisans has been assembled, and the business model expanded to include high end art supplies, artist boards and custom framing. 

In 2023 Fitzroy Stretches was bought by Senior Art Supplies, another family run Victorian based business. After a quick adjustment our team powered ahead under new leadership to continue to supply Australian artists with the highest quality stretcher bars and art materials Australia has to offer.

We could not be the business we are today without the team that has made it possible.
