About Us

Fitzroy Stretches was established just on two decades ago by Michael Falkland.

A builder by trade, Michael, frustrated by being unable to find reliable stretcher bars for his artist wife Nevin Hirik, decided to make them for her. So began a passion for producing the finest surfaces, from the best materials, for the creation and preservation of wonderful art.

Quick to establish a loyal following of customers, Michael moved from his small factory in Fitzroy to our current facility in Brunswick. Along the way a team of talented artisans has been assembled, (hello team!) and the business model expanded to include high end art supplies, artist boards and custom framing. 

Today we continue to pride ourselves on the quality of our products and our continual exploration for ways to improve our craft. So welcome to Fitzroy Stretches - we love working with you.
